Burn
is damage or loss tissue caused by contact with a heat source such as fire,
water heat, chemicals, electricity, and radiation. Bitter melon fruit that contains of flavonoid can be
useful as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting the release of arachidonic acid
and secretion of lysosomal enzymes.
The purpose of this study are to determine the effect of the bitter melon fruit (Momordica
charantia) extracts to decrease partial 2nd degrees of burn wounds at inflammation phase on the wistar strain rats.
This study are used
experimental with true experimental research design used 18 wistar strain rats
3-4 months old and the weights are 200 -250 grams as a trial animal as the
subject that divided into 2 groups. Data are obtained
from measurements of erythema values using RGB (Red, Green, Blue) with
software adobe photoshop cs 3 and the measurement of the diameter of the wound
by a ruler. The data were processed by SPSS for Windows version 15.
This study
showed that the extracts of bitter melon fruit (Momordica charantia) can
shorten the duration of the inflammation phase on partial 2nd degrees of burn
wounds on the subject. Statistical
data showed that there is a difference signification on T-Test Independent that shows
the value of p <0.5 ( p = 0.000 ) in erythema values and p <0.5 ( p =
0.000 ) on the measurement of the diameter
of the wound. It can be concluded that there are significant influence from
bitter melon fruit (Momordica charantia) extracts to shorten partial 2nd degrees of burn wounds at inflammation phase on the wistar strain rats.
